Kathleen L Larson

August 29, 2010

Psalm 27:1  “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Kathleen Lois Larsen was born on May 24, 1935 in Marquette, Michigan, God’s precious gift to Clarence Healy and his wife Martha née Gutzman.  She was the third child in a family with two brothers.  On July 14, 1935 the LORD entered Kathy’s heart through baptism as her light and salvation.

Psalm 27:4  “One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple.”

Kathy received this passage as a memory verse when she was confirmed in the Christian faith on May 8, 1949.  The LORD answered her heart-felt prayer and Kathy remained a faithful and lifelong dweller at the LORD’s house and through the faithful use of God’s Word and Sacraments was richly blessed by the Spirit of God.

Psalm 27:11a  “Teach me Your way, O LORD and lead me in a smooth path.”

The LORD continued to lead Kathy and on June 18, 1960 gave her the gift of a Christian husband and lifelong companion, Paul Larsen.  He blessed them with five children:  Lisa, Jonathan, Aaron, Joel, and Rachel.

Psalm 27:6b  “Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.”

Kathy’s life was a joyful sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD of salvation.  She sang in several church choirs and proclaimed the LORD as a Sunday School teacher and in her witnessing to others.  She enjoyed serving her family in the nurture of the Lord and was a faithful supporter of her husband’s work of 45 years as a minister of the Gospel in Mission, SD; in St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights, MN; Corpus Christi, TX; Ketchikan, AK; Jamestown, ND; and North Port, FL.

Psalm 27:5  “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.”

In the last few years Kathy had a variety of troubles with her health;  intense back pain finally led to surgery.  After a short period of relief, a cancerous tumor brought back the pain and confined Kathy to bed.  In early August, she and her husband were able to fly to Eau Claire, WI where family and friends offered support and Godly encouragement.  Even while her body could receive little food and drink, her soul feasted on the Word of God brought frequently in word and song by her husband and family members, friends, and Messiah’s  two pastors.

Psalm 27:13  “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”

On Sunday, August 29, 2010 the LORD took Kathy’s soul to heaven, the land of the living.  Her body was cremated and will be buried Saturday, September 4, 2010 at St. Paul’s Ev. Cemetery in Green Garden, Michigan where it will await the resurrection of the Last Day.  Kathy’s pilgrimage of 75 years, 3 months and 5 days ended triumphantly with Jesus’ gift of eternal life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lowell and Clarence, Jr., her nephew Gerald Healy, and her grandson Paul Larsen.

Still in the time of grace are:

her husband Pastor Paul Larsen of North Port, FL

her daughter Lisa and her husband Tim Noeldner of Eau Claire, WI and their 5 children, Sarah (Jeff) Radichel, Gretchen (Mark) Tiefel, Joelle, Nathan, and Caleb

her daughter, Rachel and her husband Marchel Krieger of Jamestown, ND and their 2 children, Rebecca and Jessica

Psalm 27:14  “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say on the LORD.”
