Dan "Ole" Olson

Dan "Ole" Olson, 69, of Chippewa Falls, passed away March 15, 2020, surrounded by his friends and family.

Dan was born April 29,1950, in Eau Claire to Chester and Lorraine Olson. He graduated from North High School in 1968, Dan was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the US Army 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles from 1969-1971, and a member of VFW post 305.

He married Susan Hauptman in 1976. Dan managed Happy Sleeper in Eau Claire for 30+ years and later started a family business, The Bed Barn. He was affectionately known as Dan The Mattress Man, Ole, and the legendary Papa Smurf. Dan loved golfing, fishing, and hunting with family, friends and "The Olson Boys." He always had a story to tell and loved to tell them. He shared his love of music and the Beatles with his kids and grandkids and loved to sing off-key around the campfire. Dan loved watching the Packers, Brewers and Badgers with his friends and family.

Dan is survived by his wife Susan; son, Scott (Kim Christoph) Olson; and daughters, Sarah (Steven) Stabenow, Jennifer (Jon) Friedrich; grandkids, Kaitlyn Olson, Sonny Stabenow, Bella Stabenow, Kailee Olson, Devyn Christoph, Jaymz Larson, Alex Larson, and Charlotte Freidrich. Also by siblings, Douglas (Marlene) Olson, and Debra (Duwayne) Lukes; many nieces and nephews; and good friends, David (Joanne) Stai, John Schuetz, and Mark Hansen.

Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents and his parents, Chester and Lorraine Olson, and his favorite kitty mush-mouse.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Chippewa Valley Cremation Services - Celebration of Life Center in Altoona is assisting the family. Internment will take place at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
