Roger “Tony” Anthony La Porte, 81, of Mondovi, WI passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at his home.

He was born February 1, 1939, in Escanaba, MI to the late Clement La Porte and Bill & Theresa (Bogar) Brady. Tony attended school at Laurium High School and graduated in 1957. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army & National Guard serving many years until his honorable discharge. He married Ruth Miller and to that marriage there were five children, Robin, Rae Lynn, Renee, Rita, and Roger. They later divorced and he married Yvonne Carter and to that marriage were 2 children, Anthony and Leslie. They later divorced.

Tony was a marksman in the Army, an avid hunter & fisherman, and loved Copper Harbor, MI. He was a big Detroit Lions fan, enjoyed playing cards, telling stories, and spending time with his grandkids and great grand boys. Tony will be remembered for his love of crossword puzzles and his quick-witted humor.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rae Lynn; his parents; brother & sister-in-law, Raymond & Kathy, and grandson Joseph.

He is survived by his children, Robin (Steve), Renee (Paul), Rita, Roger (Tina), Anthony, and Leslie. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew (Chelsea), Kayla (Tyler), Dylan, Kyle, Alton, Bryce, Shyla, and Tryton; four great-grand boys and one on the way in March, Adian, Tharyn, Bryson, and Odyn;  seven stepchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; nieces & nephews; and special “daughters” Roselle and Carla.

A Celebration of Tony’s life will be held at the Mondovi American Legion on Saturday, February 8, 2020, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Military Honors rendered by the Mondovi American Legion will be held at 11:30 a.m.  Inurnment will be at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet, MI.

Chippewa Valley Cremation Services – Celebration of Life Center in Altoona is serving the family. 

Visitation

A Celebration of Tony’s life will be held at the Mondovi American Legion on Saturday, February 8, 2020, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Service

Military Honors rendered by the Mondovi American Legion will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Mondovi American Legion.

Florist Information

Cottage Hill Floral, Durand - All flowers should be delivered to the American Legion in Mondovi after 10 a.m. Saturday.
