William "Gene" Adams

William "Gene" Adams

August 10, 2019

Gene Adams of Stetsonville, WI was peacefully called home to be with his Savior on August 10, 2019 at the age of 94.  William Eugene Adams, better known as Gene, was born on October 6, 1924 in Deland, IL.  At the age of 7, he moved to Sullivan, IL where he attended elementary and high school.  Upon graduation, Gene entered the US Navy and served in World War II.  When the war ended, he returned to Sullivan and took over a small fruit market which he then grew into a successful business.  This led him to put up a building large enough to house a small supermarket.  He sold food items of all types, clothes, oil, meats, fruits and vegetables.  He often bragged that he had the biggest walk-in cooler in town with the coldest soda pop and best watermelons around.

On September 5, 1948, Gene married the love of his life, Bonnie Batchelder.  During their first six years of marriage, they welcomed four baby boys to the family while running the supermarket.  In 1954, they sold their market in Sullivan, moved and purchased a 120 acre farm located in the Holway township in WI.  While living on the farm, Gene and Bonnie welcomed three daughters to their growing family and continued to expand their dairy farm over the next 34 years.  In 1989, Gene and Bonnie decided to retire from farming and they moved to Pearce, AZ where Gene built their new home.  While living in AZ, he established and operated a Swap Meet, worked on a pistachio farm and did small carpentry jobs for the next 25 years.  In 2014, Gene and Bonnie moved back to WI to be closer to their family and resided in Stetsonville, WI.  Gene attributed his successful marriage and his long prosperous life to God, as he always kept Christ first in everything he did.

Gene will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by Bonnie, his loving wife of 71 years; 4 sons: Mike (Sue) of Rainsville, AL; Steve (Adele);  Rodney (Nancie);  Jake (Amy) all of Holway; 3 daughters:  Jean(Brian) Boyles of Mosinee; Gayle (David) Baehr of Withee; Sarah (Brian) Holtz of Holway along with 22 grandkids, 54 great grandkids and 3 great great grand kids.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 18 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Centennial Community Center in Stetsonville WI.  Time of remembrance will begin at 11:00 a.m..  Lunch will be served starting at noon.
