She worked as a substitute teacher in the Superior area for years. In 1986 Grace took a permanent job at Nelson Dewey Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and taught summer school. The kids would often see her in a t-shirt that read “scoop” with a visor on her head hard at work putting the school newspaper together. On March 13, 1989 an article was published in the Evening Telegram “spotlighting” Grace’s accomplishments with her journalism skills and the “older adult” in the workplace. Grace’s motto was, “I’m going to do it if I have to walk alone.”
