Peter “Petesa” R. Garza, 83, of Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire with his wife at his side.

He was born November 8, 1935, in Westmont, Illinois, the son of Fred and Marie (Graventi) Garza. 

In his youth Pete played in several bands.  He was drafted as a fullback by the Chicago Bears in 1958. In 1959, Pete was drafted and served his county in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in March of 1961.  He was designated as an expert rifleman. 

Pete moved to New Auburn, Wisconsin in 1965 where he established Pete’s Blue Diamond Restaurant.  At the same time, he was a certified flight instructor for Gibson Aviation in Eau Claire. In 1978 he started a frozen pizza manufacturing facility.  In 1990, Pete expanded the business and built a new manufacturing facility in Chippewa Falls.  Pete remained involved in the business until age 79, when he retired.

Pete’s hobbies included boating, golfing, playing racquet ball, hunting & fishing, and entertaining his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Beth; son, David (Mary Ellen) Luke of Annandale, MN; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Garza of Las Cruces, NM and Rene’ Gagnon of Eagan, MN; mother-in-law, Jeanette Gagnon of Holcombe, WI; brothers-in-law, Mark Gagnon of Eau Claire and Doug (Teresa) Gagnon of Knoxville, TN; goddaughter, Cassie Sweeten; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; his ex-wife, Marianne Garza; and his father-in-law, Francis Gagnon.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Chippewa Valley Cremation Services – Celebration of Life Center, 1717 Devney Drive, Altoona, WI (next to Charter Spectrum) with Pastor Russ Atter officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service.  Military Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #53 following the service.
