Donald F. Huntington, 74, of Eau Claire, WI, passed away January 28, 2019, at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie, WI, from complications from a hemorrhagic stroke.

Don was born in Hampton, Iowa, April 23, 1944, to Daryl and Anna Mae Huntington. He graduated from Chosen Valley High School in Chatfield, MN. Don married Sharon Eisenman June 6, 1964. They were married 54 years.

In 1966 Uncle Sam needed Don, so he enlisted (as he was next in line to be drafted) in the United States Army and graduated from Basic Training as the Outstanding Trainee. He then attended Officer Candidate School and graduated a 2nd Lieutenant. His Army orders took him to Germany for 2 years, where he was a tank battalion Company Commander. Don and his family are proud of his military service and take great pride in him being an Army Veteran.

Don worked all his life in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin in the cattle business and competed several times in the World Auctioneer Championships. He was self-taught as an auctioneer, pretending to sell his cows while he would milk them, when he was growing up.

Don was employed by Central Livestock in Zumbrota, MN, at the time of his death.

Don loved his family. He loved spending time with them at the cabin fishing. He loved watching UW Eau Claire Softball and he loved watching his talented grandsons play sports, play in the band, act in the school play, and grow. Don also loved country dancing with Sharon, and special friends. His family spent a wonderful Christmas weekend together in December.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon, Eau Claire, WI; daughter, Leslie (Robin), Eau Claire, WI; son, Dusty (Nicole), Bancroft, WI; and grandsons, Cauy, 17, and Tyler, 15, of Bancroft, WI; mother, Fern Drury, Preston, MN; brothers, Gary (Mary Lee), Twin Falls, ID, Bob (Carol), Chatfield, MN, Bill (Linda), Chatfield, MN; step-brother, Wayne Bartell, Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Daryl, and his mother, Anna Mae.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, at Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls with Pastor Aaron Sturgis officiating Visitation will be held 90 minutes prior to the service at church. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, 715 Highway 52, Preston, MN  55965, which will be Don’s final resting place.

Chippewa Valley Cremation Services – Celebration of Life Center in Altoona is serving the family.
