Enid Elaine Drehmel

Enid Elaine Drehmel

January 26, 2019

Enid Elaine Drehmel, age 92, passed away on January 26, 2019, at River Pines Care Center in Altoona, WI. Enid was a resident of The Classic at Hillcrest on the Green in Altoona along with her husband, Dr. Gerald “Jerry” Drehmel.

Enid was born on May 16, 1926, in Milwaukee, WI, to Victor and Madge (Foster) Erickson.  Enid graduated from Hannibal High School in 1945.

A few years after graduation, Enid went to Nebraska and taught school for one year in a single-room schoolhouse. She only had three kids in her class, but she was proud of the fact that they all went on to college and kept in touch with her over the years.

When Enid returned to Hannibal in 1946 she found that her father, who was the Principal at Hannibal High School, had just hired a young agriculture teacher, Jerry Drehmel. Little did Vic know he had just hired his future son-in-law.

Enid and Jerry were married in Hannibal, Wisconsin, on June 21, 1947, and would have been celebrating their 72nd anniversary this year.

After they were married, Jerry went back to school at the University of Minnesota under the G.I. Bill to earn a degree in Veterinary Medicine. At that time they had one son, Tom, and a daughter, Jane Kay. Sadly, Jane passed away at 10 months of age. After Jane’s passing, they were blessed with a second son, Bill, while they were living in Minnesota.

They moved to Fall Creek, Wisconsin, in June of 1955 to set up a veterinary practice and raise their family. They were then blessed with another son, Bob, and a daughter, Brenda Sue.

They resided in Fall Creek until 1994 when Jerry retired. They then moved to an apartment in Eau Claire. Shortly after that they purchased a Park Model home in Yuma, Arizona, to enjoy their winters in snow-free comfort until 2013 when the trip became too difficult.

Enid and Jerry enjoyed going out dancing on the weekends and listening to all of the country-western musicians in the local area.

Enid is survived by her husband, Dr. Gerald “Jerry” Drehmel; her sons, Tom (Jan), Dr. Bill (Sue), Dr. Bob (Pam); her daughter, Brenda (Lance) Squires; and her sister, Faith (Don) Zimmerman.  Also by grandchildren, Craig (Brenda) Drehmel, Lisa (Audric) Buhr, Dan Drehmel, Elizabeth Enid (Lucas) Smyser, Sam, Jake & Angie Drehmel, Grant (Abby) Squires, and Dr. Nick Squires; great grandchildren, Tyler, Halle, Carson & Maxwell Buhr, Stella Drehmel.

Enid was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter Jane Kay; and her niece, Jill Zimmerman.

Enid and Jerry both had a strong faith and were long time members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek.

Enid was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her fun, creative, loving spirit will be missed by us all.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, Wisconsin, on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 12 p.m. (noon) with Pastor Carlton Kangas officiating.  Visitation will be two hours prior to service at church.  Burial will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington at a later date.

Please direct any Memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 721 South State St., Fall Creek, WI 54742.

Romans 8: 38-39 – “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

  • Byron "Bud" Stolzenburg I am one of the three students that Enid (Miss Ericson) taught in the one room country school in Nebraska. I have fondest memories of her positive approach to life. She 'boarded' at our home and we often trekked the 1 1/2 miles to school through the Sandhills.
She was fantastic at staying in touch with us, and my wife and I had a great visit with her and Jerry in Yuma some years ago
May God grant you a rich measure of His love and comfort as you celebrate Enid's homecoming.

  • Peggy & Tom Vincent A beautiful tribute to a wonderful lady. We always enjoyed getting to visit with her & Jerry during our vacation trips to see Bill & Sue. Her warm heart always welcoming. It was Inid who taught me what a thrift sale was all about & urged me to explore the opportunities for bargains. Our deepest sympathy to all the Drehmel family.
