Richard C. Sobotta

July 30, 2018

Richard “Rich” Clarence Sobotta, 80, of Eleva, Wisconsin, died at his home on July 30, 2018, surrounded by family. Richard was born August 23, 1937, in Arcadia to August and Helen (Pyka) Sobotta and graduated from Arcadia High School with the class of 1955. He married Joyce Boberg on August 26, 1961, in Arcadia. Together they raised three children.

Rich served 8 years in the National Guard Red Arrow 32nd Division with active duty in 1961-1962 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was a machinist at Uniroyal for 27 years, until the plant closed in 1992. He loved fishing and camping with the family and also built a maple syrup cooker and raised honey bees in his pastime. He enjoyed playing old country songs on his Gibson guitars, learned to play button accordion and loved to dance to old-time music. After retirement he created   unique projects from wood and metal; building model engines proved to be his favorite. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rich is survived by his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Sandy (Joel) Roswell of Eleva, Cheryl (Gerald) Spitzer of Saint Charles, MN; one son, Michael (Phunyanuch) Sobotta of Eden Prairie, MN; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; one brother, Aaron; two sisters, Elaine (Greg) Repinski, and Doris (Galen) Mueller all of Arcadia. He was preceded in death by his parents.
