LaVerne J. Vollendorf

LaVerne J. Vollendorf passed away on May 29, 2018. LaVerne was born on June 10, 1926 to Benjamin and Mable (Ausman) Vollendorf in Eau Claire, WI. His mother Mable passed away when he was just six months old. He was then raised by his aunt and uncle Ella and Walter Reetz for several years until his father remarried Lilly Bushendorf Vollendorf, which became a life changing experience for LaVerne. He lived on his father’s farm on the west side of Eau Claire. He attended Eau Claire Senior High School and ultimately graduated from Elk Mound High School in 1944. In January 1945, LaVerne began his career at White Machine Works in Eau Claire until enlisting in the U.S. Army in April 1945. Upon finishing Basic Training, he opted to become a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Fortunately, the war ended before he was slated to invade Japan.

On August 17, 1947, he married Ramona Hanson in Elk Mound, WI. They were to celebrate their 71st anniversary in August. To that union, one son, Mark Charles was born.

Upon discharge from the U.S. Army in 1947, LaVerne returned to White Machine Works and remained there for 40 years until the plant closed and was consolidated in Lake City, MN. He later worked for several companies including Direct Oil where he drove a fuel transport.

LaVerne loved fishing, bowling and boating and was an avid water skier. However, best of al he loved the Green Bay Packers. He was an owner. At the age of 52, he took up golf and claimed he was never very good at it but loved to get together with the boys at Lake Hallie Golf.

He was preceded in death by his Aunt Ella and Uncle Walter Reetz; his Father, Benjamin; Step-Mother, Lilly; Brothers, John (Lucille), Robert (Ardys), Charles(Marjorie) Vollendorf and Sister, Mary Jane (Leo) Clark.
