Thomas A. Draz

Thomas A. Draz

April 13, 2018

Thomas Antrim Draz, 58, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home in Eau Claire, WI.

Thomas was born in Washington D.C. to Peter and Beverly (Antrim) Draz. Thomas lived life to the fullest, as a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather.

Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1988 until his honorable discharge in 1996. Through that service, he found his passion for teaching.

As a teacher, most recently at Chippewa Valley Technical College, Thomas worked to inspire his students to achieve their career goals. After the passing of both his father and father-in-law, he set up scholarships in their honor to help his students realize their own potential.

Thomas did not let personal adversity stop him from achieving his goals. Despite suffering health setbacks, Thomas realized his dream of finishing an IRONMAN triathlon in 2015. That drive didn’t end there, as he was training for this year’s IRONMAN in Madison.

Never putting the focus on himself, Thomas used his participation in triathlons to bring awareness to many local and global causes, becoming an inspiration to his teammates and fellow triathletes.

Thomas is survived by his wife Geralyn; his children, Chris (Lindsay), Jen (Kenn Paquette), Andrew; and his grandchildren, Roxy and Liam. Thomas is also survived by his brother, Steve (Dottie) Draz; and his sister, Dorothy (Steve) Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Unity Christ Center, 1808 Folsom St., Eau Claire, with Rev. Sandra McKinney officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

  • Mark Puig It was with extreme dismay that I read of Tom's passing last week. I can't effectively express my feelings here but my sincere condolences go out to Geralyn and his family at this sad time.

I had the good fortune to work with Tom as one of his fellow instructors at CVTC for several years. He was always passionate about his role there and the program is better for his contributions. I know he will be greatly missed by his fellow instructors but more so by the students he cared so much for.

  • Paul Nelson This is very sad news. It’s almost unreal to me. This morning as I was looking over this week’s labs, I found myself asking myself, “I wonder if we’re gonna have a pop quiz this week”. Little did I know. I’m very proud to be a student of Tom, he has helped me in many ways to understand what’s being taught in class, he also made efforts to offer advice when I had issues preventing me from making it to class on time. I will always remember these things and his effort to prepare us for a good job/career. Thank you very much Mr. Draz.

  • Chris Sandford Unbelievable and very sad news! I was a member of the 2015 Ironman Wisconsin team with Tom, and we were all so proud and excited that he completed the race, as did the entire team. Toms finish was particularly inspirational because of his previous health challenges in prior Ironman attempts. He was truly an inspiration, and will be missed by every person he touched. I am thankful that I met Tom and will remember him always.
