Joyce Joann McFarlane

Joyce Joann McFarlane

April 10, 2018

Joyce Joann (Smith) McFarlane passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born to Alvin and Margaret (Phillips) Smith on April 13, 1943, in NW Wisconsin.  She met Michael McFarlane at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona and they were married there in 1962.  They had three children, Donn McFarlane (Michelle Schurman), Roxann Brixen (Mark), and Tracy McFarlane.

Joyce had a long work history at Stafne's Sunset Inn, Huebsch Laundry, and Sacred Heart Hospital.  Over the years she became immersed in many different hobbies including ceramics, sewing, crocheting, and baking.  Above all other interests, she most enjoyed playing the organ for family and friends.

She met and spent many joyful hours together with a very special friend planting flowers at Pioneer Park and going to antique tractor shows.  He gave Joyce another special friend, Pumpkin, her orange tabby cat.  During the last few years, she took to coloring and would spend hours on a picture just to give it away to those around her.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Michael McFarlane; and a grandchild, Noreen Marie.  She is survived by her children; her grandchildren, Jordan, Kennedy, Jennifer, Amanda, Stephanie, Lynn, and James; and her great grandchildren, Carter, Autumn, and Silas.  She is further survived by siblings, Al Smith (Cookie), Lyle Smith (Mary Lu), Mike Smith (Linda Zarling), Tammy Goldsmith (Jeff), and Tonya Beebe (Dale); her sister-in-law, Gloria; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their everlasting gratitude to Grace Woodlands, and Sacred Heart's ER and ICU for their very caring staff and to her very special friend for sharing so much with her.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Truax Congregational United Church of Christ, 1800 50th St, Eau Claire, with a luncheon and fellowship to follow.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at church.
