Frequently Asked Questions about Pet Cremation

Many pet owners choosing cremation have questions. These are some of the most common...

1) How do I know I'm getting my pet's cremated remains
back and not someone else's?

Chippewa Valley Cremation Services uses a unique identification system which involves a crematory proof, metal tag with a unique identification number. This is shown to families at the time we take possession of their beloved pet. It then follows their pet through the cremation process. The tag remains in the chamber with their pet during the cremation process. The tag is affixed to the cremated remains upon removal from the crematory. When using Chippewa Valley Cremation Services, you can have 100% confidence that your pet is being cared for like it was a member of our own family.

2) What happens if my pet dies at home. Who do I call?

In the event of a home death, simply call (715) 835-3333. Our phones are answered 24 hours a day. In the event of a death during non-business hours we will provide you with an option to bring your pet to Chippewa Valley Cremation Services after hours by appoointmet.  Please note: there is an additional charge for after hours service for pets.  Note that our office hours are M-F from 8:30-4:30.

3) We are having our pet euthanized at our local vet hospital. Then what?

Instruct your veterinarian to call Chippewa Valley Pet Cremation Services. We will transport your pet from the hospital and arrange the cremation for you. If you choose, you can personally bring your pet to our facility as well. Simply call (715) 835-3333 to make an appointment. You can have peace of mind knowing that your pet is being cared for by a licensed funeral director. We will call you as soon as your pet's cremated remains are ready to be picked up or we can deliver them to your home.  We do not charge to pick up from local vet clinics (in Eau Claire/Altoona).

4) Can you take my pet to my veterinarian to have it euthanized?

Sorry.  We do not offer that service.

5) About how long will the cremation take?

Generally our practice is to perform pet cremations once per week.  We utilize refrigeration to hold pets until the time of cremation.  In some cases, cremation of your beloved pet can take up to two weeks if we are busy serving families in our funeral homes.  Becasue we are a funeral home, we have to cater to families that have lost their loved ones first as we are legally bound to follow that practice.  If you would like more in-depth information about the cremation process, please call us anytime at (715) 835-3333.

6) Do I need to purchase an urn?

No. An urn is not required. Many families do however elect to purchase an urn for their beloved pet. Urns come in all shapes, sizes and prices. We would be happy to discuss options with you to assist you in memorializing your pet. Check out our online urn catalog by clicking the link below.

For those size 76-100 lbs, $225.  For pets ranging from 101-125 lbs, $250.   For larger animals, please call us at (715) 835-3333 for pricing and/or to arrange services.
