Ruth McMillen

August 1, 2017

Early August 1, 2017, Gertrude Ruth McMillen entered the gates of heaven from Sacred Heart Hospital surrounded by dear friends.

Ruth was born May 9, 1938, daughter of Gertrude and “Mac” McMillen in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  She went to St. Patrick’s grammar school and graduated from Regis High School, then continued her education at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN.  After graduation, Ruth worked for the Catholic Youth Conference in Washington D.C.

In 1961, Ruth entered the Order of Benedictine Sisters in Duluth where she worked in the business office.  After 15 years, Ruth left the Order and began working at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.  Her most challenging assignment was to run the new clinic that Sacred Heart was building.  She loved her work at Sacred Heart up to retirement.  She was passionate about the Green Bay Packers and football in general, game shows and reading.  In retirement, she supported many charities and was on the board at St. Patrick’s and Regis High School.

A special thanks from her friends to Dr. Jalil for his wonderful care and concern for Ruth and the CCU nurses at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Richie, Jim, and Glenn McMillen.  She is survived by two sisters-in-law; two nephews; and one niece.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Eau Claire.

Condolences

  • Barb Wetzel My condolences to Ruth's friends and family. At the monastery I remember her as a solid, fun-loving woman committed to her friends and I imagine her as continuing in that vein in Eau Claire. I think if we had re-connected after OSB, we'd be friends. Peace to you all.
