Duane J. Borgwardt, 88, of Eau Claire, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018, at his home with his family while under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

He was born April 9, 1929, in Eau Claire, the son of Elmer and Sadie (Swanson) Borgwardt.  Duane graduated from Eau Claire Senior High in 1947 and immediately entered the U.S. Airforce and was stationed at Clark Field in the Philippines.  He returned to Eau Claire and married Yvonne Edison on January 27, 1951, at Norden Parsonage in rural Eleva, WI. 

Duane worked as a salesman at Graphic Printing in Eau Claire for 37 years.  He then worked for Litho Specialist of Eau Claire until his retirement in 2007.  In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Amacoy Lake in Bruce.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne of 67 years; daughter, Nancy Curry of Bruce; son, Jeff of Altoona; daughter, Jody (Bob) Peterson of Eau Claire; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; numerous cousins that were like siblings to him; and by many relatives and friends.

Duane was preceded by death by his parents; infant brother; infant daughter, Pamela; and his son-in-law, Mike Curry.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Spirit Lutheran Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Jim Ahlquist officiating.  Burial with Military Honors rendered by American Legion Post #53 will be held following the service in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Loomis, Dr. Muhammad Rishi, Aaron Whalen and all the St. Joseph’s Hospice staff for their wonderful care.

Duane will be remembered by for his kindness, generosity, and humor by all that knew him.

Chippewa Valley Cremation Services in Altoona is serving the family.

Duane was someone we enjoyed golfing with, and spending time with Yvonne, Chuck and Ardie.They were all great partners on the course for both Frank and I.
