December 28, 2017

Jean L. Hanson, 72, of Sand Creek, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, in Chippewa Falls, while under the care of Mayo Clinic Home Health & Hospice.  She spent the last 18 months battling with cancer.

Jean was born on April 19, 1945, in Rice Lake, WI, to Roy and Marjorie (Trowbridge) Gronning. She graduated from Chetek High School in 1963. Jean married Roger Hanson on January 16, 1965, they were married for 38 years.

Jean attended vocational school for cosmetology and later ran her own beauty shop called Swirl & Curl in Sand Creek. She also worked within numerous nursing homes in the area for a number of years doing hair.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and doing family activities.  Including; working on the family farm, camping, snowmobiling, motorcycling, sewing, sports, and she enjoyed baking… to a crisp.  She also found great joy in spending time with her dear friend Al and attending music and theater productions with him.

Jean is survived by her children, Kurt (Janene) Hanson, Jolene (Scott) Frey, Bradley (Tricia) Hanson and Karl (Hannah) Hanson; grandchildren, Stephanie (Loren) Thomas, Kyle (Sarah) Hanson, Ryan Hanson, Nicole Hanson, Hayden (Nicole) Frey, Hudson Frey, Bradyn Hanson, Madilynn Hanson, Alexandra Hanson, Joshua Hanson and Lukas Hanson; great grandchildren, Finn Thomas and Mollie Frey; siblings, Joan (Roger) Nichols, Judy Gronning and Janice (Dave) Wendlandt.

We are so thankful for the example of the life she led, she chose joy and Jesus over sorrow. She stood firm in her faith and was well aware of where she was going to spend eternity.  Always willing to lend a helping hand where she could and continually trying to see the good in people. Mom, we will miss your joy and unconditional love.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Harvestime Church 3625 Southwind Drive Eau Claire 54701 with Pastor Kim Buckman officiating. Condolences

  • Patricia Hamm My Mother, Frances Mayhew was in Dallas Rehab for 5 years, and I hired Jean to come and do her nails. That was very important to my mother and she and Jean developed a warm friendship. I have fond memories of Jean's riliher loving caring way for people.

  • Judy and Ronald Horn We are so sorry to hear of Mom's passing. She and I had so many good conversations whether at confirmation for Jolene and Mike or at the beauty shop. I still have not found someone who could cut my hair like your Mom! This is a bookmark she gave me "A Friend is one who knows all about you and loves you just the same". I just looked at it the other day and thought of her. She loved her family dearly. God's Blessings.
